About (old)

Safe Haven is a NO KILL animal rescue group serving Kennebunk, Wells and the rest of southern York County, Maine. We are dedicated to the “radical” notion that all companion animals deserve a loving and comfortable life.

Safe Haven programs include:

  • Humane pet rescue
  • Home foster care
  • Educating the community about compassionate pet care
  • and, of course, adoptions!

As a grassroots, volunteer-run organization, we have no big endowments to pay our bills. We depend on individuals and small businesses like you for the funds we need to pay for spaying, neutering, medical care, rehabilitation, transportation and supplies for the cats in our care.

Each year, for example, we spend approximately $60,000 on vet bills. That doesn’t include ongoing expenses like food, litter, etc.

Because we’re a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, your contributions are tax-deductible. Consult your tax advisor for details.

Our Adoption Center, 1420 Post Rd, Wells, is open 11-4pm Tues-Sat. Call 207-646-1611.

Our Thrift Shop is next to the IGA Supermarket in Wells Corner, Rt. 1 at Rt. 109. Open 11-4pm seven days a week. Home of our “Scaredy Cat School!” We welcome donations of cat food (preferably Friskies canned and Purina One dry) as well as your gently used clothing and housewares. More about the shop here.
