But thanks to you, he’s living
happily ever after!See this face? See the twinkle in Dickens’ eyes? We put it there – thanks to your financial support and the hard work of our unpaid volunteers.
Flea-infested, anemic and malnourished, little Dickens weighed only 11 ounces when rescued. One eye was so badly infected, that blindness and eye removal threatened his recovery. With no mother’s milk, he needed to be bottle-fed every two hours for weeks. But our around-the-clock medical care, love, and dedication saved him and his sight. Look at him now!
And Dickens is just one of 350 at-risk kitties saved by Safe Haven this year alone.
Because we believe every life is sacred and worth saving. We not only believe it, we practice it daily through our education, rescue, fostering and adoption programs. We practice it with each animal, every step of the way. Yes, it’s expensive and lots of work, but we have compassionate communities of animal-loving friends who share our beliefs. Together, we've proven No Kill is possible. In our hearts, it’s the only way!
Many are surrendered by heartbroken owners. Some are abandoned after a foreclosure or eviction. Many are strays. Some we have to physically rescue from abuse, neglect or predators. Safe Haven rescue teams go out in snow and rain, across fields and into sheds, day and night, to humanely trap them and get them out of danger.
Every cat immediately receives all necessary medical care. Average cost: $150-200. Then they are lovingly cared for in a foster volunteer’s home until they’re adopted – no matter how long it takes.
Our No Kill philosophy means there’s no time limit on foster care. Once they’re out of danger and enjoying family life, the cats’ physical and emotional scars heal quickly. Adoptive “parents” frequently remark how well socialized our kitties are, and how well they adapt to their new homes. The credit goes to Safe Haven’s wonderful foster volunteers.
Each Safe Haven kitty gets every chance to live a long, happy life – even the ones who arrive with broken backs, birth defects, or battling serious illnesses. Providing medical care to each one is a huge expense. This year’s flood of new arrivals has pushed our average monthly vet bill to nearly $5000 a month. And that doesn’t include the cost of food, litter, cleaning supplies and other necessities.
Despite our frequent fundraising (yard sales, bottle drives, our thrift shop, etc.) there are always more cats needing help than dollars to spend on our life-saving work. So we turn to you, our animal-loving friends, for help.
Please become a member of our life-affirming No Kill organization. Your tax-deductible membership will help us pay our vet bills and keep our adoption, foster, rescue and low-cost spay-neuter programs running.
Sorry, no tote bags or t-shirts. We’d rather spend that money on the cats. You will receive our new newsletter so you can see for yourself how your donation is saving lives.
