Hoarder Crisis: Your Help needed

Safe Haven is currently taking in many kittens and cats from a hoarder situation. Your donations of kitten chow, canned cat food, cat treats are needed to help care for these many extra hungry mouths.

So far we have taken in 15 adult cats and kitties, and many more are coming. The kitties arrived in cardboard boxes, filthy, ravenous and smelly. They were bathed, fed and placed in loving foster homes. All are responding wonderfully to kindness and responsible care.

If you know of cats living in inhumane conditions, please report so that they can be rescued and sterilized, so they don’t reproduce. Help end cycles of abuse!

Current & upcoming events

St. “Catrick’s” Day Adoption Campaign runs through March 18. Come in to our free-roaming adoption center and meet our many adoptable kitties.

Tractor Supply Adoption Event March 31, 10-4pm at Tractor Supply, 1770 Main St. (Rt. 109), Sanford. Come meet a few of our volunteers and find out why you should adopt from a no-kill group like Safe Haven.

Yard Sale set for March 31 (tentatively). Stay tuned for updates. Donations welcome now. Please drop off at our adoption center between 11am-4pm or call 646-1611.

Volunteer Open House, March 31, 12-4pm. Want to help us continue our No-Kill mission? Tour our Adoption Center, meet the Safe Haven team and, of course, hang out with our kitties. Last month’s Volunteer Open House was a big success, and new volunteers are already active in our program, feeding and playing with kitties, cleaning cat rooms, working in the shop, helping with laundry, and best of all, pampering and playing with the adoptables!

But we need more hands. To keep our adoption center operating at optimal strength, we need 13 volunteers every day, seven days a week. That’s 91 slots per week to fill!

Please, if you can spare an hour or two once or twice a week, and want to help care for kitties, please call 646-1611. With kitten season here, we also need volunteers who wish to foster homeless and/or pregnant kitties in their home. This experience is like watching miracles happen.

Vintage photos of cats

I’m not sure if these are terribly cute or really depressing…

Decades ago — before the Internet, even! — a guy named Harry Whittier Frees went to elaborate measures to take novelty photos of cats and dogs dressed as people for children’s books of the era. Cute — or cutesy? You decide.

You might want to turn down your speakers before you click.

Unless you like the music, you can stop after the first 1:30. The pics repeat after that.

Become a Volunteer! Open House March 3
