We are happy to learn that little Merlot, now named BLOSSOM, is blossoming in foster care. Today brought her closer to being healthy. Foster mom Laurel is feeding with a syringe successfully to supplement Blossoms self feeding from a saucer. Blossom is a very frail, malnourished kitten who came very close to death by being found belly down on all fours partially frozen in someones yard. Luckily she was spotted and taken indoors and we were called.
She was rushed to emergency by two of our volunteers as they rubbed her to warm her, lay her near the heating vent of the truck as they sped away to Emergency. Blossom finally let out a little MEOW which cheered them that she was still alive.
First thought was that she had a broken leg and had suffered some sort of injury, but it was actually the way her little legs were freezing. This is just a baby, only about 5 weeks old. She was born to a feral kitty fed on the property. The mother and other kittens have not been seen for some time. How she ever was the sole survivor of the family and in the middle of a yard is the mystery.
The good thing is the kitten was seen by the man, and he didn't assume she was dead and he didn't consider her unworthy of help. We are grateful she is alive.

Blossom's vet bills and dear Merlin's vet bills are a huge hit for our limited budget that we were just recovering from Cutie's bills. Just for the three kitties that went to emergency our bills totaled more than $11,000.

With an average of about 90 - 100 kitties in our program (adoption center and foster care and assisted adoption care program) this $11,000 was a bit hit. We are asking for you all to consider making a donation to Safe Haven to help us continue on with our merciful care to kitties in such urgent need.

You may donate via paypal thru www.safehavenhumanesociety.org, or mail your donation to Safe Haven at Safe Haven PO Box 91 Wells, ME 04090.

Another way you can help is by donating canned cat food. Our cupboards are empty and we urgently need canned Friskeys canned cat food, Poultry flavor pate or fillets with gravy please.

Fancy Feast, or special broths or tuna help too because we have sick or elderly kitties that need to be encouraged to eat.

Thank you each for any contribution you can make to help us save these precious innocent lives!!!

No sooner did we suffer the loss of Merlin at the emergency hospital when we were back there that same night with a kitten that was found half frozen laying on the ground in Kennebunk.

We received the call that a little kitten was lying outside in the freezing cold and a man brought it inside and it was not responsive and looked like it had a broken leg.

The man rushed the kitten to us and two of our volunteers, Lisa and Stephie rushed the kitten up to emergency vet trying to warm it with warm towels and rubbing it and putting it under the heater vet in the truck to get the kitten warm.

The kitten was set up on pumps and catheters and given fluids and given medications, and glucose and everything available to revive this little girl. She did not have a broken leg, her leg had started to stiffen from the cold but when warmed up her leg was fine.

After leaving her for overnight hospitalization at the emergency hospital, they left to search the property for the remaining kittens but came up with none. There is a continued watch on that property now for any mother cat or kittens.

The kitten was released today and she is a 4-5 week old sweetie named after Merlin who lost his life that same day. (see our post about Merlin below) Her name is Merlot and she is adorable. She seems healthy, shes underweight but thank God she is ALIVE and was spared freezing to death.

Please everyone, if you see mother cats outside in this weather, report it. Be sure they are fed! Be sure they have water!! Get help to get them out of the cold or provide stray for them which is a great insulator from the cold. Any cat needs to be rescued in this weather, or provided care and shelter!!

We must be their guardians. They deserve to live a happy and healthy life, just like we do.

Merlots vet bill along with Merlins add up to a great expense to our small organization. We have been hit very hard with emergency situations to save lives.

Please donate to Safe Haven, please donate to our thrift store and shop for our great cause! our store supports our No Kill mission!!!

Thank you and God Bless the Animals and those who love them!!

What do you take/ need for donated goods? My daughter is asking for donations for her bday and we are looking into what shelters to give them too.

Awww....She is so cute. I'm glad the man found her when he did. Poor thing!! I hope she finds her furever home, I hope they all do, they deserve it the most. The ones that are hurt need more love, I wish I had room in my home for another fur baby...

So precious! I keep a eye out all the time, when I was a delivery driver in Washington I found many pregnant strays it was sad but I got them help!

OH MY GOODNESS she's so beautiful! I hope she finds a happy forever home!

God bless you all for the wonderful work you continue to do. It SO matters!!! <3

I'm sorry to hear about Merlin poor baby but I'm happy to hear that Merlot is doing well keep up the good work😜

I wish I lived closer

Look at the little face Christie 😻
