Remember Dukey?

Remember Dukey, the kitty who was depressed because his elder person went into a nursing home?

He’s now enjoying a new home with his very own person!

It happened because of Safe Haven’s My Buddy for Life program. That’s where we pay the vet bills of shy or older kitties for life. Dukey loves having his very own person again, who will love him forever.

Please support our no-kill work. Consider sponsoring a kitty for only $10 a month. Your donations enable us to help even more kitties in need.

Donate here or mail a check to Safe Haven Humane Society, PO Box 91, Wells, ME 04090. Thank you!

Want a Buddy for Life?

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month and many Safe Haven residents have waited a long time for a home. Come in and talk to our volunteers, get to know the kitties. Sit with them. See who calls to your heart.

GroverOur new My Buddy for Life program provides lifetime vet care when you adopt a shy or older kitty who’s waited a long time for a home. Safe Haven provides expert advice, assistance when needed (e.g., nail trimming), and yearly medical care so the kitty maintains optimal health.

It’s important to us that all our kitties enjoy the comfort and love only a forever home can provide!

So if you, or someone you know, loves kitties and wants their companionship, please call our shelter at 646-1611.

If you cannot adopt but appreciate our program and wish to help us, become a Buddy for Life sponsor for $10/month or $120/year. Please mail your donation to Safe Haven, PO Box 91, Wells, ME 04043 or donate here. Thank you.

Kitties like Grover (above), Prince and Zeus all deserve families. By providing their lifetime vet care, we aim to encourage their adoption NOW so they can enjoy the benefits of family life immediately instead of waiting any longer.

When shy kitties are adopted and learn they’re with a loving forever friend, their personalities bloom. Safe Haven even provides some toys and treats to help gain your kitty’s trust. When you interact with your shy kitty with a toy, the fun becomes a starting point for developing a loving bond.

Treats, given at appropriate times, and laser mouse exercises make for a happy and healthy kitty. Like shy people, shy kitties usually just need some time and encouragement to develop confidence.

Please support the loving work we do. Our kitties receive the best care, and are never threatened with euthanasia. They stay with us until a great home is found, no matter how long it may take. We need your support to help afford our vet bills, mortgage, and specific programs.

Want to help?

We need additional receptionists and animal-care assistants. Call 646-1611. Also, please donate cleaning supplies, Mr. Clean, bleach, HE laundry detergent, paper towels, scooping litter. They’re always needed and appreciated!

Adoption Open House this weekend

IMG_7094Mr. Magoo and his kitty family want you to come on over to our Adoption Center Friday and Saturday (June 17-18) from 11am – 4pm to meet them and see just how precious each one is.

They’re making their debut after a loving foster experience and are ready for placement to loving families. Don’t miss out!

Mr. Magoo is a sweet lovable tuxedo with a soul patch on his chin. His markings make him look all the more animated when he is romping and playing with his siblings.

IMG_7093Ferdinand Magellan is the biggest kitten in his litter with a big tail that he has yet to grow into. He is calm and confident and seems to “go with the flow” of life.

Freckles has a beautiful white heart on his black chest and a freckle on his nose. He’s a silly darling boy that is all about play. Freckles won the prize for being the first kitten in the litter to purr when held! That is a wonderful accomplishment! Bravo Freckles!

The one who deserves all the credit and fame for these beauties is their mommy Anna Belle who has been a most exceptional mother.IMG_7089

She gives her litter the best of everything and it certainly shows by the babies she is so proud of. She deserves a very lovely and special home with a sensitive and gentle person or family. Job well done Annabelle!

Please come and meet them all. All have had their shots and medical testing, are neutered, etc., so they’re ready to go home! Please consider adopting!

Kittens? This weekend? Naw…

OK, the last few weekends our adoption center in Wells has been filled with the sounds of laughing and scampering feet. We’ve been holding a series of open house adoption events to get rid of find homes for some sweet little kittens.

This weekend, the same? Nope.

Due to the circumstances beyond our control, yada-yada, the kittens are playing a gig out of town won’t be here in person. Sure, we’ll have their pics and adoption applications, and our volunteers can tell you all about them, but their cute little faces and fuzzy fur will be absent. That’s OK, come by anyway, 11-4pm Fri and Sat. We’re right next to the Wells library on Rt 1, behind the dentist’s office.

Hang out with some of our older, shyer cats. They love company, too. They’d love a forever home, too. And unlike the little tykes, the older cats have paid some serious dues. Neglect, abuse, and some you don’t wanna know about.

They’ll love you for it. So will we.

And we have 8 young KITTENS available to be adopted! For more info, just scroll down to the 4/22 post.

Of course, don’t overlook our adult kitties. They’re also wonderful companions, and don’t require the energy to keep up with a rollicking kitten. They’re content to curl up and read or watch TV with you.
