Open House this Saturday – Meet the Kitties!

This Saturday (Dec 17) from 11am – 4pm, you’re invited to our 2nd annual Holiday Open House at our Adoption Center in Wells, at 1616 Post Rd (Rt. 1).

It’s part of our annual Home for the Holidays adoption push. Our goal is finding permanent homes for 100 cats and kittens — about half of our current population. The more kitties that are adopted, the more space and resources we’ll have for new rescues. And heaven knows there are many more stray, abandoned and neglected felines who need us!

Last year’s Holiday Open House was lots of fun and brought out many longtime friends and lots of new supporters, who all seemed to enjoy hanging out with other people who share their love of animals and belief in No-Kill.

Our adoption center is always fun (well, except maybe sometimes when we’re all frantically racing around trying to get everything done!) but the holiday atmosphere is especially warm and loving. Please join us — and spread the word to friends, family and coworkers.

Adoption event this Sat

The big Holiday Yard Sale isn’t the only event Safe Haven is hosting this Saturday.

Foster volunteer extraordinaire Marilyn is opening the doors of her family’s fostering center to the public. Meet and pet some of the 200+ kitties available for adoption as part of our annual Home for the Holidays adoption blitz. Adoption counselors will be available to help with the paperwork, if you decide to adopt.

Remember, “senior” kitties over age 8 have their adoption fee waived. We just want them to find good homes!

The place is 251 Country Club Rd. in Sanford, this Sat. from noon-4pm. Come and meet Marilyn’s adorable, adoptable kittens and kitties at their wonderful foster home, and get the inside uh… scoop (sorry) on what it’s really like to foster kittens. Call 490-2855 for more info.

Huge holiday yard sale this Sat!

Come to Safe Haven's holiday yard sale this saturdayThis Saturday, Dec 10th, from 8am-3pm, Safe Haven is holding our latest indoor yard sale.

Join us at Blair’s Auction Barn, 1624 Post Rd. Wells, behind Bo-Mar Auction. That’s Rt. 1, just north of Rt5. 109. Yes, practically next door to the Safe Haven Adoption Center.

Come around back — NOT inside Bo-Mar itself — and wander through table after table of holiday, home and gift items. Many are brand new and worthy of gift-giving, housewares, home décor, books, kitchen items, antiques, and unusual treasures of all kinds. Donations keep coming in; this will be another great treasure hunt!

As always, all proceeds benefit our No-Kill cat rescue, fostering, adoption and low-cost spay-neuter programs.

Thank you for all your donations and your purr-chases!

It’s a wonderful life for Hobo Joe!

Hobo Joe…A remarkable fellow!

Hobo Joe came to us in April. This wild child was really very upset to be caught and removed from his wild life. He sulked, he hissed, he pouted and that made us love him all the more. We knew he was frightened and sad and in pain from his injured paw. We couldn’t blame him for missing his old wild life and for fearing us and what we might do to him. At most shelters feral cats are killed, but luckily Hobo Joe was with us and we are No Kill and love ferals. Continue reading

Safe Haven Appreciates Wentworth-Douglass Hospital!

Kitties love to be spoiled and Wentworth Douglass is helping to do that!

Laurie Wright brought Safe Haven to the attention of her animal loving friends at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH.  Laurie and husband Jim were very active and hard working Safe Haven volunteers and it saddened us when they recently moved away. Some of you know them also as Mr. and Mrs Hemingway, as they are the couple who adopted our wonderful Hemingway and even wrote a song about him!

Hemingway!

With her heart still with Safe Haven and all the kitties, Laurie found a way to help from away. She told her co-workers about all our kitties and her supervisor at work arranged a food and supply drive for Safe Haven! It will be their 2nd Annual Holiday Collection and they are asking for toys, blankets, towels, and much needed  CAT FOOD! We feel very fortunate that this year Safe Haven will be the recipient of this generosity!

Thank you everyone at Wentworth Douglass Hospital, especially Laurie, Lynda and Joanne for arranging this and to all of you who donate something for our kitties at Safe Haven!  They will really appreciate your kindness! As you can see by the photos, soft blankets, kitty beds, towels, toys, little stuffed animals and treats all help keep our kitties environment very homelike and happy. We are in desperate need of canned cat food and litter. Laurie used to feed the kitties and she knows what big appetites happy healthy kitties have!

Thanks Laurie, we miss you and Jim and Hemingway, but we sure do appreciate you keeping Safe Haven close in your hearts and helping us still!

Honey Bell relaxes in her private suite.

Tiffany entertains kitties in our playroom!
