Deceased October, 2013

Wilder was the 18 year old kitty owned by Don and Kathy Beeson of Rye, NH. A generous donation in memory of Wilder was sent from their friend, Jane Beck from Ogunquit, ME, who understood their great loss. Kathy sent this beautiful tribute to share about her beloved friend, Wilder:

Wilder was a gentleman.  Simply put, he was the most gentle, caring, loyal dear friend I could have ever asked for.

He nearly died at age 9 and was rushed to the emergency clinic where he was diagnosed with diabetes. He was not expected to recover, but he did — and lived happily until he was over 18 years old.

He took his insulin injections like a trooper, never objecting or complaining. In all of his life, Wilder never once hissed, scratched, clawed or bit a living soul.  Well, some birds and voles might dispute that, but we humans only knew his goodness. He tolerated his exams at the vet with grace and was kind to everyone.

Wilder slept on my pillow for 18 years and loved to be held and cuddled. He would sit by the fire in winter and on the screen porch in summer, watching the birds outside. In his last few years, he could no longer see the birds, but he still loved life.

Wilder leaves only happy memories and a legacy of love and devotion that we cherish. He was a good boy, a true gentleman. He is missed daily in so many ways and will always be remembered as the kindest soul. My arms are very empty without him — he took a huge chunk of our hearts with him when he died.
