This weekend’s weather will be gorgeous — yay! The canopies are set up in our front yard, on Rt. 1 in Wells. Tables are piled high with donations (both treasures and, um, junque).

So come by and kick off the Yard Sale Season right — by scoring bargains and helping our No-Kill cause at the same time.

Hours: 8am-3pm Saturday, 9am-2pm Sunday.

Did I mention a limited supply of home-baked goodies will be on sale, too? (Better get here early.) And bring your returnable bottles and cans, too. Every nickel helps!

Two Adoption Events this Saturday in Sanford

Tractor Supply, Rt. 109, Sanford, 11am-2pm. Meet adorable Maine Coon kitties!

Foster volunteer Marilyn is opening her satellite fostering center to the public, 11am – 4pm Saturday, at 251 Country Club Rd. (Rt. 4), Sanford.

Meet a bunch of tiny kissable kitties, like this guy (left). For more info, call Marilyn at 490-2855.

Hospice care for kitties?

Our No-Kill rescue provides a lifetime sanctuary for kitties with health conditions that require either long-term or hospice care. We care for kitties with heart disease and cancer, kitties who stop eating due to injury, stress or depression, even those who require around-the-clock tube feeding for weeks.

Our unpaid foster volunteers sacrifice their free time and make this personal commitment. They take them into their homes and love each kitty like their own family member. This kind of dedication and care is one of our strengths and shows that we are totally committed to our No-Kill policy.

To help us continue this service, we need the support of kind people like you. Currently our waiting list includes many cats who require additional financial support to rescue. Each kitty needs a foster home and vet work. Please help us save them by supporting Safe Haven in any way you can.

Support can be monetary donations, $10/month kitty sponsorships, yard sale or thrift shop donations, books, bottles, and wish list donations. You can help by becoming a volunteer, or by fostering pregnant cats and kittens, troubled cats who need extra love or a quiet place to rest, and by adopting!

To create a No-Kill society, we all must become involved and support the cause. Thank you for your help!

Betty Boop is as playful as a cartoon kitty

Betty Boop is the purrfect name for Safe Haven’s newest arrival. She has the charms, looks and spirit of the old cartoon character.

This vivacious, outgoing, young girl didn’t hesitate one moment to become a comfortable part of the SH family. No grieving for her former life — she was purring and ready to get on with her next great adventure within minutes. Some kitties arrive fearful or depressed, but Betty Boop is confident and full of fun.

This adorable three-year-old is definitely a party animal. She wants to move into a happy, loving family ASAP. Please come and take this darling girl into your life. She is sunshine personified!

Next Yard Sale: May 19-20

Yard Sale in Wells

It’s spring! Time for another Yard Sale, this weekend (April 28-29) at 1624 Post Rd. (Rt. 1) Wells. That’s next door to Safe Haven, behind Blair’s Auction Barn. Look for the sign on Rt. 1. Hours: 8am-3pm Saturday, 9am-2pm Sunday.

Donations are still welcome. Drop them off at our Adoption Center at 1616 Post Road, Wells during business hours Mon-Sat 11am-4pm. 646-1611

Kitty Adoption Days in York

Hosted by our friends Judy and Rex Lambert on Sat., April 28 (and again June 2) from 11am – 4pm at their shop, Bell Farm Antiques and Backyard Birds, 244 US Route 1, York.

Another Kitty Saved

Boots, an 11-year-old Chicago-area cat, is headed to her new home in a no-kill shelter. Her life was spared thanks to a probate judge last week.

Boots’ owner, Georgia Lee Dvorak, died recently. In her 1988 will, she stipulated that any cat or cats she owned at the time of her death be euthanized. According to a neighbor, Boots may have been abused by her former owner, and Dvorak was worried that her pets might fall into abusive hands after she died.

A Cook County probate judge spared Boots’ life after the executors of the woman’s will asked the judge to set aside the provision. Boots is now living at Cats are Purrsons Too, a no-kill shelter. Source: Chicago Tribune

Juju with the really good mojo

Juju

Juju is such a beautiful adult male. His gorgeous, long, light-orange coat doesn’t seem to matt like other long-haired kitties. With his sweet and childlike nature, he always seems amused and in a good mood. He enjoys his home in our free-roaming playroom. He loves people and is good with other cats.

Juju’s very playful, a happy-go-lucky guy. At feeding time, he’s first in line. He sits next to the volunteer, hoping to be first to eat.

We would love to see Juju find a wonderful family to be a part of. It’s springtime and we want all our kitties to enjoy a new beginning in a home where they will be loved forever. Come meet Juju and the other kitties, and help us make that happen!

9 lives and a 19 story fall

A deaf white cat in Boston’s West End managed to fall 19 stories, and live to tell the tale! Well, meow the tale.

Whether it was instinct, luck or feline flying skills, Sugar (left) managed to land in a tiny mulch patch next to a brick walk (right). A woman in the building said she saw a “white streak” go by her window, then saw Sugar after she hit the ground. Amazing!
