Rabid raccoon in Kennebunk

Need another reason to keep your pets indoors? A raccoon found dead on a Kennebunk resident’s property tested positive for rabies.

Police said the dead raccoon was found around March 12 in a yard on Sea Road. this week. Residents are encouraged to be aware and have their pets vaccinated.

Three dogs who live at the Sea Road property were “playing” with the dead raccoon in their yard. The dogs are up to date with their vaccinations and are being observed, but so far have shown no signs of the disease.

The Kennebunk Veterinary Hospital is holding a rabies clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 21. Shots are $12 for cats and dogs.
